A Case of the renal Hypoplasia

Abstract
One case of the renal hypoplasia is presented with a brief literature review. The small kidney we have seen in this clinic was measured by 3x2X0.7cm in whole dimension. The surface was multiplely lobulated with dark reddish color, and the kidney shape was like a bean having a narrowed slender ureter.
Microscopic findings on this kidney revealed a fibrotic changes in parenchyma and somewhat normal appearance of the glomeruli in a general view but a few hyaline degeneration was found in some of the glomeruli including cystic changed tubules on another side.
The renal artery was a single narrowing vessel which seems to be atrophied in the wall, and the most wide portion of this vessel took the size in diameter by 0.3cm. The lumen of this vessel was seen likely to be normal smooth surface, the intima and media showed mild hypertrophic irregular patterns.
According to pathological findings, the case which we have presented here was thought to be a congenital hypoplastic kidney due to atrophied renal artery, we could not elucidate the cause of it unfortunately in this aged patient but the pathological findings led us to say as a congenital rather than an acquired one.
